I'm looking for a tow car for an avondale Dart 556/6 1300Kg.

Have had an excellent offer on a 2.0 TDCi Focus C-Max, and have just test drove a subaru 2.0X. Which would bew the best tow car? Any help please.

Have run and towed with both cars just wath out for max tow on both cars. Subaru solo 28 mpg solo 18towing Ford diesel solo 45 mpg 18mpg towing. Subaru traction amazing, ford lots of wheel spin on hill starts never master of the caravan and poor brakes max towin 1200Kg

Both did 120,000miles with no faults. Ford needed suspension aids otherwise rear end on the deck. If you can afford the petrol go for the Subaru especialy if they are still doing the hill holder brake. Just remebered the Subaru did 4 clutches the Ford was still on the original. Due to Ford releasing strain through wheelspin where as Subaru had no wheelspin took it out on clutch so maybe get an auto as cheaper than clutches.

WE have had 3 Suburus now as tow vehicles..........

Always very reliable, amazing traction and power on hills. We pulled one caravan up a mountain pass in Wales with one of the old Suburu estates 1800cc, then discovered that the brakes were stuck on the caravan. Only a slight drag on the car gave it away as it pulled like a tank up that mountain. Only minus point with Suburu is the fuel consumption.

Last model, the Forester was the best by far, a fun drive solo due to the Awd.

Be very wary about the mpg figures quoted by Ford for the Focus and C-max. These two models got 6 out of the bottom 10 positions in a recent survey comparing quoted mpg to actual mpg. All vehicles vary according to the individual driving style but Focus and C-max seem to vary downwards more than most.
