TV star Martin Roberts has declared his love of caravanning, which he recalls in his latest blog – click here. Have you?

And, no, the friendly confines of the Practical Caravan forum don't count!

Remember listening to that debate back in January 2015
Shame it 's taken till November to remember it

Quote :
That's it, I’ve come out in public – on national radio. After years of keeping my private passion under the awning, one day last week I found myself overcome by the need to support and defend my own kind and reveal all. I feel a weight has been lifted. No longer do my wife and I need to shuffle uncomfortably at some dinner parties when the subject is raised. I feel liberated and ready to shout from the toilet-block rooftop:

“I AM A CARAVANNER!”

So what defines a declaration of love. We don't all have the same access to the media as the other Martin. Okay so we get get published from time to time in the caravanning press but that doesn't count if the forum doesn't count. Some of us from the forum may apply to be on that TV thingy that cropped up a few weeks ago, will that count as I think it's for channel 5? Well I'm approaching my 44th birthday next year so will soon be able to say I've been caravanning for 44 years does a lifetime count as a declaration of love?

I think it is the itchy feet that you get just before you are due to go away that shows the passion and the need to go and sit in it when you are at home and have nothing planned.

I must admit to having had freinds round for a drink siting in the caravan on the driveway, not gone as far as having a BBQ on the driveway, yet.

I also spoke on the same radio 2 programme so my hobby is no dark secret.
To be fair I've never experienced the slightest sense of shame or social awkwardness that Martin alluded to.
I have the absolute freedom of choice to use a twin axle touring caravan that I paid for which I tow with a large diesel engined 4x4 which I bought, and which guzzles fuel which I pay for so why would I be defensive about my choice?

Same here, ;) I also drive a dustcart working on my own, blocking roads, called every name under the sun. Own a modified Subaru Impreza (yes even at my age) and two dogs of which certain papers would call dangerous.

I don't care, I will own up to everything and thoroughly enjoy the lot ! Stand up and be counted!!!!.

I have been caravanning for 43 years although there was big break in the middle. My parents got a six berth cavalier with glass windows, no hot water (it did have an electric water pump though) no shower and only a slide out cupboard area to the side of the kitchen that you could put a chemical toilet in if you so decided; t was used for storage for most of the time to be honest. They sold that in the late 80s so as an independent soul I took up tenting as I couldn’t really afford a caravan. My parents travelled the world for a bit when we left home and then went halves with my sister on a folding camper the early 00s eventually getting rid of that a couple of year back, we stayed with them a few times but carried on camping in a range of tents. And then this year we jumped and bought our own caravan; as our children are young I can’t envisage us not being caravanners for the foreseeable future. And I make no apologies. Anyway I reckon that the carbon footprint for my Terrano is less than that of my friends who, having no kids, jet off for holidays in the sun three times a year.
