Hi All

Wer'e off to France for 3 weeks in Sept stopping at 5 different sites from north to south to North, I was wondering if anybody had been to any off them before? First stop Le Puits in Normandy. 2nd Les Valades in the Dordogne. 3rd Camping Clairac in Languedoc. 4th Camping Monplaisir Provence. And finally Camping La Paille haute back in the north off France. Any views good or bad welcome, as we have booked these independantly.

We are going to France next w/e and have also booked Le Puits for 3 nights at the start of our holiday, never been before but have heard good reports of the site so fingers crossed we will have a good time. We are away for a month and are then heading down to St Emillion area not booked any sites but are hoping by then the french holidays will be over and we don't have any trouble getting a pitch, if anyone out there thinks we ought to book in advance, please let me know.

You shouldn't need to book anywhere after about the 15th August (except, perhaps, beachside sites in very popular locations and even then only for the week up to the 22nd August) - and in early September you may find yourselves one of just a few outfits on some sites!

Check your sites after the middle of September as many close by the end of the month, and of course if there is no one on them, they may just decide to pack up early. The Camping Cheque Book lists sites open all year round if required.

Thanks for your replies, sorry for the late reply work commitments i'm afraid.
We booked ahead and got confimation from the sites so we could plan our route, as its our first time abroad with the van we wanted to plan it and not just turn up hoping sites would be open as we are going to be covering approx 3500 miles.

What sort of temperatures can we expect? Or is the weather as unpredictable as here?

Regards
Mark

Stayed at your last one (La Paille) last Friday on way back from Slovenia. It's a transit site, really. Full each evening and empties as people head off in the morning. Lots of Dutch when we were there. Might be pretty empty by end of September though. Worth noting that gates are closed til 7am - so watch it if you have a v early ferry booked from Calais (75 miles away).
Good site, unusually for France has no defined pitches - you just park up where you fancy. Really friendly bloke at reception. Nice enough pool area. Didn't use cafe/bar. Toilets/showers so-so. Bread and croissant van delivery every morning (in Aug, anyway).
Close to Sommes battlefields, so if interested, worth making time for a look at memorials and museums. Didn't do so this trip as short of time and had already spent a few rather sobering hours at Verdun (200 miles south). But from recollection, the Canadian memorial and displays at Vimy Ridge are worth a trip (10km or so from site). It's also not far from the new cemetary at Fromelles where they've laid to rest the 'Lost Battalions'.
