Barney,

If you decide on Belgium, then the Belgian cuisine is just as imaginative as the French - just a bit more rustic.

For a lunchtime sandwich, try my favourite "uitsmijter kaas" or if you eat meat "uitsmijter rosbief" - an open faced sandwich starting with three slices of bread, three or six slices of Dutch / Belgian cheese or roast beef, and three fried eggs on top, plus some salad.

I've been vegetarian since leaving University thirty years ago, so with a personal cholesterol score of 2.5 the odd egg and cheese sandwich doesn't hurt.

Uitsmijter - is pronounced "outs - my - ter"
