freedom caravans

Due to health problems i am thinking of down-sizing to a freedom caravan,i read that they are not great for towing, would this be the light weight or just one persons view.I have seen several on the road travelling fine,does anyone have experience of them? all advice welcome. john

before buying the bailey we looked at all the different makes of small caravans as we only wanted a small lightweight van that would fit into our garage and could be towed by our small family car.

freedom was one of the vans we looked at closely as the size and weight were perfect had we been able to get a good deal on one would probably have bought one. however the advertized price in 2005 was just under 5k but we could not get one for less than 6.5k from anyone other than the importers.

as van we thought they were pretty good for the price and liked the idea of a one piece body (no seams to leak) the finish while being a little spartan seemed ok and solid enough the seating was a little thin for my liking but they looked reasonably well put together the model we looked at had only a 2 ring burner and grill very small fridge and vinyl floor it had a dinette though this reduced the toilet compartment a lot and only had a lift up sink to save space like I said quite spatan and a bit retro like a 1980's ace however at nearly 11ft it was quite roomy for it's size with decent size windows and full headroom I am 6ft and could stand upright even at the front of the van.

what impressed me though was its manoverability it was easy to move single handed even on a slight slope the dealer even towed it round the complex with a 4wheeled m/bike "like the ones farmers use" with ease.

what they tow like on the road I have no idea but any problems due to it's light weight should be counteracted by proper loading I would think.

in all quite a good van everything being equal providing you dont expect everything to be top spec and can live with the plastic polish bucket lable I would say they were well worth the money.
