Took the new Freelander out for a test drive friday, wow what a difference from are 02 model.

Loads more torque, nice comfortable seats all electric and heated, great 6 speed box, sat nav, a phone on the steering wheel, more boot space and climate control which they assured me actully works.

The only things i didn't like were the rear window does'nt go down and the back door opens upwards which makes it hard for the OH to shut being a little shorter then me and the price, the HSE the one we looked at was £33000.

But overall we were very impressed.

A job well done Landrover

Agree that LR seem to have done a great job with the new Freelander, but Cliff is correct about the price. How can they justify a price which will be 7 to 8k more than the top spec new CRV. Interesting to see what the discounts will be off the new model.

BMW had little influence on Land-Rover during their ownership but Ford are having huge influence, particularly on design and development.

Ford have always been good at matching quality to cost. For many years their own cars were built at the lower end of the spectrum but they've long since moved away from that position.

It won't be too long before the public realises that the only connection between Land-Rover Freelander and Land-Rover Freelander 2 is the name. The Land-Rover traditionalists will tell you how it embodies all about their heritage, that just shows how good Ford's PR department is!

Well done, Ford, the Freelander 2 is a good car.

It seems like as UK Royalty is on it uppers that LR drivers have to pay for their kids Horsies these days ;-)

Please will you cerfs keep up to speed with the news or Land Rover will have wasted even more money Wayne.

It would appear the the Royal have little money now ( on there uppers) as the Queens granddaughter a Miss Zara Philips who is not a Royal but is Royal, and is having her "Horse Eventing" funded by being the new face of Land Rover.

LR will love you Wayne they have spent a fortune on the girl and the ads and you haven't seen them yet it seems ;-) on the other hand she may not be as well known as LR think :-(

What a Waste {:0)

Nice car shame about the price. Big money for medium sized car, I think I'll look for a S/H Range Rover Sport instead, diesel of course. The wife likes the HSE F/dr but at 33,000 it's just too much and I would like to suport an home grown product as I consider anything else has a massive carbon footprint in the ways they have travelled to this country any way. Just my prefferance, Bazz.

Boring Boring - if you cannot afford one stop dribbling on the carpet.

The yanks are queuing up to by and my local LR dealer has a full order book and is taking test drive bookings at a rate never before experienced.

Sit back and wait for the sales figures.

The antis will need a proctologist to retrieve them

I've seen the car and it looks really great, it is a little pricy for a UK built car when it will sell cheaper shipped over seas.

But if people will pay I guess Ford grab what they can, but it will be interesting to see how the new Mazda 4x4 does. It looks cool and as its a Ford company it will be intersting to compare UK prices.

What is more interesting euro is that the Freelander 2 is built on exactly the same production line as Jaguar models. The problem is that Jaguar is not selling well but Land Rover products are - world wide!

Now I think the Jaguar lineup is superb - I would have one myself if circumstances were a little bit different. But the technology on the production line allows fow either!

I repeat my post juts above yours cliff in case you missed it. I have often said how much I admire all sorts of marque of car. But admit to being a LR anorak.

In contrast - once again you post is simply desigened to antagonise. We all know the Freelander 2 in the States will be far cheaper than in the UK because in the States "Car Tax" is not applied and then VAT is not applied to the cost of the car plus the Car Tax!!!

Only in this country do we accept a tax on a tax

Just like we accept fuel duty of 80% on every litre of fuel that we buy and then happily pay 17.5% VAT on the whole ruddy lot!

I may be a LR enthusiast and I make no apology for that!

But what are you passionate about cliff?

Deriding another persons entusiasm?

Well done my friend - I hope you feel proud of yourself.

This new Freelander is likely to be a very capable car, but who will the avearge driver be abd where will get used most of the time.

My daughter has a fully loaded new Rav4, she uses it off road at times but not as a serious green lane mud plugger and I doubt that many Freelander owners will be any different.

With nearly 7k difference between the LR and the Toyota one has to give such a purchase serious thought.

I fail to see how Ricky gets off on this anti 4 x 4 kick.

The Jag is an OK up market Mondeo 140 mph cramped saloon car with limited boot space and bigger foot print than say the Freelander or a RAV4 and in everyday use it's less economic. The Jags towing ability is somewhat restricted for those all weather and all site conditions and is less nimble urning circle wise, by the time you fit a roof box to make up for the limited carrying capacity any cruising advantage you might have had MPG wise has just gone out the window.

Having travelled in the rear of a RAV 4 and the Jag for family use the 4 x 4 wins hands down.

hi euro.i was under the impression only the x type was based on the mondeo floor pan,Is Rickys an s type with it having a 2.7v6 in it(2.7 HDI)as i thought this was unavailible in an x type?what i cant understand is when people say"their only mondeo,s".as though they are putting them down when in fact they are good tow cars.
