Freelander loss of power

I have a 4 year old Freelander Td4. Over the past year or so i have noticed a loss of power. Now when I accelerate the car struggles upto 2300rpm and then I get a burst of power as the engine starts to pull. Over the past year the point at which the power kicks in is getting further up the rev band. It is a real nightmare when solo let alone when I try and tow my 1300kg van. Has anybody else exprienced this problem with a Freelander and what was the cure. Thanks.

Sorry I don't know, I never experienced this with mine, try one of the LR magazine sites like LROI they have model specific forums where you are quite likley to get an answer.

Julian, I would almost certainly get the "Turbo" checked out. Symptoms sound very much to the effect that it's not performing correctly, or one of the air breather pipes to it has become resticted in some way. Should be fairly simple for garage to check out and not that costly unless you have to replace the "Turbo", if you do, shop around various factors as well as main dealers.... price can vary a great deal.

Hi Julian - First let me say I am no expert and that you need to get it properly diagnosed by a Land Rover expert. Your local dealer will do it but by God will they charge. My advice as an owner of a Y reg Freelander is to take it to a GOOD independent LR specialist.

However, "health warning" apart - it sounds like you may have a hole or some kind of leak in the Turbo piping somewhere. A friend had a Carlton TD that did exactly what you describe and a new

either a turbo problem like others have said, but it could be the air flow meter ( bit pricey to replace) I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the air low meter. Does the engine tick over ok? is it unstable with it revving up and down by about 300 revs?
