This Q has come up several times on this forum, it looks like we have the official answer now, CH4 channels will be available from launch with the CH5 channels following later this year.

This is broadcast FTA (free to air - no encryption) so will be viewable as the present channels are on existing boxes, although red button functions are probably not supported by most existing boxes.

Full line up at startup

With the possible exception of BBC HD (I do not have HD box yet)and the CH4/5 lineup this is exactly what is available now.

Launch was yesterday so the channels should be available now.

Freesat is the new service launched today fom the BBC/ITV and should not be confused with Freeview as different equipment is required to recieve it, neither should it be confused with Freesatfromsky which is a totaly different service from a diffrent provider altogether.

Channel 4 E4 Etc has been available on freeview in our area for some time but each region differs from channels available untill the digital switchover is complete.

Yes, you will get the channels but you will probably not get the interactive services, I have the Maplin, Lidl etc suitcase kit and it will get the channels but I would require require a new box for Interactive or HD.

When this is completed with channel 5 I would say freesat would have the superiorer line up with Dave and Virgin1 being the only significant channels missing from the Freesat lineup.

Hi all,

Just looked on the freesat web site and it looks as if i should be able to use my dish but ill need a new digi box. Do you think this is true or will I be able to receive the new channels on my excisting digi box, it could be that they just want you to spend more money on equipment we dont need.

If your box already recieves FTA channels without a Sky card i.e. BBC, ITV channels than you should be OK.

Men and Motors is a big giveaway because it is FTA on normal boxes but part of a subscription service on Sky, so if you get that without needing a card you will be fine.

If you look at the link on my first post it just says later this year.

Assume it will include the the other CH5 channels available on Freeview.
