Used my old dish from home with a tripod (or you could use a pole attached to a frame). Get a compass, point the dish East then SLOWLY move southward until the signal meter on the skybox gets half way on both bars, and hey presto there you go.

Have a look at this site for lots of info. I personally believe that a Sat finder is well worth while.

www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk

3 things will make it hard or impossible to get a signal abroad.

1) Being too far south to get a signal with the size of dish you have

2) Trees between you and the Satellite

3) Bad connections on your cables.

Hi Geoff

My experience with satellite TV in our caravan has frankly been poor.

That's not because of the equipment I have [Transparent plastic coated push-in-and-out ARM click Clack caravan 60cm dish with stand; 0.3dB MTI Blue Line LNB; Pace DS430N Sky Digital receiver; Lacuna Wolsey 2005 satellite meter all purchased from (very helpful) David at www.satellitesuperstore.co.uk] but because of TREES !!

It seems that whichever site we go to, the 'line of sight to the satellite is interupted by foliage which inhibits good reception.

Somehow digital interference / poor recetion seems a lot worse than analogue IMHO.

I'm looking to upgrade the van's original equipment Status 315 but not sure with what yet.

Sorry to be negative.

Geoff,

I watched the last world cup whilst on the med S/France,we were surronded by all nationalities watching, the tv was turned so as to be seen through the front windows which were open, with towels on as sunshades. it was great,

I used a dish 80cm and tripod, I lined it up horizontaly with a compass (I think its 19.2 degrees east of south,) then verticaly with a sat finder, took about 10mins.(once you get it working scribe a line, or put a peice of tape along the LNB arm, line it up North/South it easier to find than 19.2 east of south)

You should also have the TV switched on and use the Signal test in the System set up, it shows two grey lines when you have a sky signal, its best to practice at home, copying dish directions and angles.

I have seen one outfit in n/france with a domestic dish fastened to the jockey wheel with a privat hedge infront and his reception was perfect, I too have had trees block the signal, but usualy when they where wet.its not to dificult to find a pitch with a clear view south.

I have since upgraded to an auto seek dish, it is brilliant, never failed yet.

Good luck mate
