Freezing thetford toilet tank

Hi...wondered if there was any way to stop the water in the toilet tank from freezing...any additives or anything that can be used as we intend to use the van through winter too? Thanks in advance for any comments...

Dave.

Dave

I would be very surprised if either of the tanks froze as they are in the shower room and, if it was THAT cold, would you want to be using it?

I've had the aquaroll and waste pipes/container freeze, but never the loo! Just leave the heating on low and it'll be fine.

the only silly question is the one you do not ask

first thing to remember is any anti-freeze can be poison.i contacted thetford for the idea of using an anti-freeze in the toilet flush header tank, this was there reply by email.

Thank you for your e-mail.

Any antifreeze used should be non acidic and non corrosive. Generally any non toxic anti freeze that is mono propylene glycol based should be ok. If using anti freeze please adhere to the manufacturers instructions at all times.

Please refer to your Thetford Users Manual with regards to using the toilet in the winter. Please be aware that Thetford accept no responsibility for damage caused by any anti freeze products.

Kind regards,

Thetford Customer Care.

We have been all year round for 20yrs and have never had the toilet tank freeze but if you want to be on the safe side you can get an additive from any good caravan shop that you add to the header tank to stop freezing.

We've picked our van up today from storage in bolton and our thetford toilet has frozen - the outside temperature has risen so that's helped; we've also put warm water in and drained it which has sorted it so .... they can freeze. Off to Matlock tomorrow for a week - can't wait!!

i have just had the water freeze in the base of the dehumidifier and it froze solid.this was sat in the centre of the van next to the house.going off this the toilet tank on an outside wall WILL freeze.removing the blue toilet fluid bottle in front of the van for winter storage,a full bottle and this was part frozen too.
