We've just got back from a few days away where the nights were well below freezing . We lagged the water container with a homemade hot water tank jacket and kept the heating on. This was because we sstarted last season with a leaking shower probably caused by frost damage. Has anyone had suffered freezing problems?

We did one year, when at the beginning of the 'season' we discovered a leaking tap in the bathroom (the leak was underneath the basin and not immediately visible). We discovered it was due to a valve 'blowing' inside the tap connection, due to water inside the valve expanding when frozen. We were advised to leave all taps half on in the winter, even after draining the water system, to ensure this didn't happen again. This advice was given to us by a nice man in Narbonne Accessories near Montpellier (which was where we were when we discovered the leak) and he had exactly the right valve to replace the problem one. However, we couldn't get it into the tap so we went back again, and he knocked off the price of the valve from the price of the new tap so we couldn't complain! He was very knowledgeable - especially as they hardly ever get freezing weather down there!

Hi Bev

We were away two weeks ago. The aquaroll was ok but even with a homemade jacket lumps of ice had formed. No problem. The real daft thing was the amount of ice that formed in the wastemaster.

Every morning the warden poured boiling water on the sites mains water taps which had frozen up. Like you we kept the heating on and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Cheers

Alan

Worst problem I had was last February, went up to Blackpool to change the van, collected the new van prepared to spend the 1st night in the new. I assured the wife that as the new van had an internal water tank we would have no problems. I shouldn't have tempted fate. Temperature dropped to minus 9, 1 st problem was in the middle of the night with the cold coming through the mattress (fully sprung) this was solved by putting a blanket under the mattress. Next morning turned the tap on and nothing, whilst the water in the tank hadn't frozen where the pipes ran over the plastic wheel arch the water had frozen in the pipes, this was solved by lagging the pipes where they crossed the wheel arch. Worst problem though was I had left a 40 litre aqua roll full outside the van and we know had a giant ice cube. to make matters worse we were moving on that morning so I had to put the frozen aqua roll in the back of the car when we were leaving and then wait on it melting on the journey.

So a word of caution if the temperature is going to drop below freezing and you are due to move of in the morning dont leave the aqua roll out just in case. In 20 years this has only happened once but its sods law.
