Hi just returned from a lovely 3 week tour of france. Now looking forward to next years and hoping u out there can give me recommendations on campsites on the cote d'azur. I would like as much info as u can give me, ie/ locality to beach, near main roads, swimming facilities, state of beach/sea, nearest hypermarket, quiet, noisy and how to contact them. Hopefully this will come in handy for others looking as well as me.

Try the Camping Cheque website - they list a half dozen or so sites on the Cote D'Azur on the French map and you can check out the facilities and look at piccies. They may also have site websites where you can look in more detail. We've stayed near Cavalaire, Cros de Mouton, Selection Camping and Camping de la Baie, Domaine de Niaides near Port Grimaud, La Bastiane, near Frejus, Camping Les Pecheurs near Roquebrune, near St Raphael (sorry can't remember the site name), and Camping L'Esterel near Agay - but it's quite a while ago in every instance and we went low season. We also stayed somewhere in the hills above Nice, but again I can't remember the site details. Most of the sites were good to very good, but the Cote d'Azur is very busy in July/August and traffic all along the coast is hideous. (I spent six weeks living in La Croix Valmer with friends there who we visit regularly). You'll spend hours in traffic jams. If you're able to go outside peak season you'll save a lot of money, the weather will be just as good, and there'll be half the number of cars around!

There are plenty of books on the market to give you what you want. Try the Alan Rogers guides, Camping Cheques website, Caravan Europe published by the Caravan Club or the one I most use the website of Select Sites who also offer great deals on site prices and ferry crossings
