Excuse my ignorance, can anyone tell me what the sign on the French auto route "village e'tamp" mean displaying a bed etc.

Economy hotel, usually without reception and accessed by credit card.

Usually very clean and comfortable, some have breakfast facilities whilst others are close to a fast food outlet.
