We are thinking of taking the outfit and family to France next year within about 5 hours of the tunnel. Can anyone recommend a site where there are plenty of activities such as water sports, cycling, horse riding etc.

http://www.la-croix-du-vieux-pont.com/at Berny Riviere, near to Soissons - within your five hour driving distance of the tunnel. It's a big site, open all year, but has one of the widest ranges of activities available. It has a shop on site, a bread shop, restaurant and take-away, and indoor and outdoor pools, plus a fishing lake and river running alongside. You can hire bikes, ride horses, etc., etc. It also has a large British clientele, so it's not too much of a culture shock for your first time camping in France.

As no one else has been along with any suggestions, can I make another? Get hold of the Eurocamp and Canvas Holidays brochure - they offer sites with lots going on - and you can see at a glance what is available. If there's anything you fancy then come back on here, and ask - I'm sure there'll be someone who's been already!

Bois de Bardelet near Gien, on the Loire, is another site with plenty going on - and good pitches (but beware the take-away unless it's changed hands!!)
