Fridge Blanking Plates

Hi, new to caravaning and have bought a 13 year old Swift caravan. I am going away soon, in winter, and know from manula that at air temperature less than 10 degrees C the fridge vents should have blanks fitted. My local dealer has not been able to get me the blanks (different size to the current Swift ones). Until I can find some blanks what should I do? Is it OK to just "Duck Tape" over the vents as a temporary measure and if so do I completely block off each vent or leave a small air space?

Do not block off the whole Vent, as there still has to be some ventilation around the Fridge. If you are going to use a Porch Awning, have this on the Fridge side of the door, as this will give you the same level of protection as the fitted blanks.

You could make some Cardboard Templates until you can gt the correct ones,

I always put my fridge vent covers on when the caravan is not in use. This limits the amount of dust/dirt which can get in behind the fridge.

I also put the covers on when travelling, again to protect the fridge.

However if as i do you put the fridge on mains electric for 24 hours or so before leaving home, or on gas, remember to first remove the covers if the temperature is above 10 degrees C. Then put them back on for travelling irrespective of the temperature as the fridge will only be working on 12 volts.
