We have a Ford Mondeo 54 plate 2lt Ghia hatchback and tow an Abbey GTS 418.
Since having a new alternator fitted by Ford (not sure if this is a coincidence! ) but the fridge will no longer work on the cars 12v system when towing. We have directly measured the voltages on the 12s socket and we are missing both fridge 12v and batt positive 12v....conclusion is.. must be a fault with the car? would you agree???
(Car reversing lights, indicators etc. all work on the other socket)
We have gone into the car fuse box and tried to check trailer fuses in position 74 and 92 ...( both 20a fuses) but they are not there .....
no fuses in place !!
should they be and could this be the reason we are not getting 12v power to our fridge when towing.
All help much appreciated
Thanks

Hello Angela.
Your symptoms certainly point to a problem in the car. It may well be a wire was not reconnected when the alternator was fitted. I suggest you contact the fitter and tell of the problem and arrange for them to recheck the work they did under their warranty..

I had a car wired from the alternator for the voltage sensitive relay, so have a good look for a hanging wire.

The two trailer fuses you mention may just be for the dedicated car electrics, not the after market one.

Mine has two fuses next to the battery.

Many thanks to both of you for your replies...the mystery has been solved!!
We took the car back to Ford and somehow!! the fuse had not been replaced when the new alternator was fitted !!!!!!
We were given a fuse to 'try' as they weren't sure what the correct one was and told to pop into the towbar fitting shop around the corner to check!!
We have a 20A fuse fitted now...will that be ok??
So is our faith in the'professionals' tainted......sure is!!!
many thanks
Angela
