Hi Ed

Is your fridge Dometic or Thetford, if it is Dometic you can contact them and an engineer will come out to sort the fridge out under warranty no cost to you, I can't speak for Thetford because all our fridges have been Dometic, if you have Dometic try this number for help 01582494111.

Ed, to check if the electric element is working, switch the fridge on for about 30 mins, then take off the lower fridge vent on the outside of the van, should be just a single turnbuckle on the centre left of the vent cover,1/2 turn releases it, then ease off the cover, it has a locating lug at the opposite end so take care, and it may be a little stuck to the mastic around the frame it sits in.

Turn off the electric, then look through the vent opening, on the right side is a vertical tube wrapped in thin aluminium and there should be 2 silver coloured elements entering the tube at right angles to it, both with cables attached, one will probably be red and one grey, or maybe both grey.

Feel the metal of the end of the elements, but take care, one should be hot, and the other probably warm as it is so close.

The hot one will be the 240v one.

If neither are hot, the the element is not working, so the fridge will not cool.

The fact that the light in the van is lit does not mean that the element is actually working, just that 240v is present at the switch.

thetford do a call out service too under warranty, mine worked on gas and 12v fine but intermittent on 240v, ended up having a new fridge under warranty but it took a couple of months to arrive.
