Have the Thetford in the van, does the fridge perform better on gas or electric or is about the same?
reason for asking, in hotter weather it tends to drip when on electric, and if say a lettuce or bacon is near the top just below the freezer on top shelf the items tend to freeze.
I know some of you have fitted fans behind but I would rather not go down that route if it can be avoided.

If you buy yourself a fan it will sort out your problem with the fridge ..... your other option is to use a decent cool box in the awning as that will give you more space in the fridge and that will help it cool more efficiently ....

By Installing a fridge fan it improves fridge cooling performance in hotter climates. The improved airflow reduces the overheating of the absorption unit allowing a more efficient process of cooling the fridge interior, It is fitted to the rear of the upper fridge vent, the fan draws out hot air from behind fridge to improve air circulation and improve the cooling efficiency of fridge.

On another note .... my fridge vents are at the side of the fence when the van is parked in the garden, i always had problems trying to cool it down before we went away if anything the fridge got warmer due to no air movement :( , by fitting one of these fans the air is pulled through the vents and it can be down to freezing within a few hours .... ;) the fans can be switched manually or left on auto ( to cool it down in the garden i use the manual mode )

.

I have the same query, although we have an Electrolux RM212A model. Is there a difference in performance with one power source over the other?, or do both provide similar cooling ranges ?
I am intrigued by the fan suggestion - Can anyone advise if this is solely for one specific power option, or whether fitting a fan as described would help in either gas or electric setting ?
Cheers

A fan should help whatever method is operating as it draws away the heat from the grille.

A tip: the easiest thing to use is a 4inch computer fan which runs off 12V and draws about 50mA (or 0.05A in old money.) Better still use two fans in series (make sure they are running the same way) which will mean they run slower and make significantly less noise, and draw half the current but are just as effective.

Simples.

All the absorption fridges fitted in caravans are primarily designed to be run on Propane as the main heat source.
Electric was added to satisfy customer demand for them to be able to run on mains or 12v (when towing).

Good air circulation through the top and bottom vents is essential to the best operation of the fridges.

Fans(if fitted) should be fitted in such a way as to not interfere in any way with the gas burner.
