Fridge vent covers - advice please

We are enjoying our first year as caravanners and intend to continue further into the Autumn - and maybe into the winter. However we are confused about when and if we should use external fridge vent covers. Can someone help please? Thanks.
 
I keep the fridge vent covers on all year - except when on site if the ambient is 10 degrees or above - during towing, storage and winter the covers stay on.

On our Bailey the poor fridge installation allows draughts through the fridge vents which the covers reduce nicely.
