I knew it, Geminis are known for idle chatter, my hubby is the same, it drives me crackers cause I'm the opposite. I always know where he is when on site somewhere, gossiping. What a coincidence he has the same b/day 5th June:O)
BTW my mother is the same, Gemini, she drives me bananas as well!!

I've always loved caravanning (even when I didn't own one, must be the gypo blood in me or the fact that I'm married to one.

When I decided to buy a caravan, we had an air con engineer chap in the office and he overheard my telephone conversation when i was arranging to view a van. Anyway, he said he was a 'caravanner'. I'll always remember his comment which went along the lines of 'on a campsite, the bins are always full of beer cans/wine bottles'. That just reinforced my resolve to buy a van.

Anyway, who cares what people think when you tell them you are caravanner? I certainly don't.

I used to hate being stuck behind a car towing a caravan (and still do when driving solo) but the truth is, when you have your own van it is actually a home from home. Contary to public perception, I don't think it's 'a cheap holiday' especially when you take into account the purchase of a decent van, servicing, maintenance, insurance, pitch and storgage fees. But who cares? If you like it, do it.

Lisa.

oops - I realised after I sent it that it was your good lady wife and not yourself - I do beg her forgiveness and didn't realise I had spelt it wrong until now - hehheh!
T'is not everyday that a Lord begs my forgiveness and therefore I happily bestow it upon thee Lord B. Just goes to show that Fouldsy hogs the keyboard in our house so you're more used to reading his rantings than mine.

Well, I don't care what anyone else thinks, and I think we (us) are anti-social as we would rather go in the van than go to family/friends gatherings. We see it as quality family time, relaxing time and we wouldn't change it for the world.

At work, come Friday, everyone asks me where I'm going, always seem interested, always ask on Monday if it was good, I see a little jealousy here, as most stay at home, do DIY, go shopping etc etc, yet we do all that and more (well not DIY) whilst away in the van, but are still relaxing more than them.

As for the kids, well my oldest at 13 asked if we could go abroad, pointed out that for the price of 2 weeks abroad, we could have loads of weekends and about 4 weeks away in the van, it was his choice. His friends get a fortnight and he gets more, the choice for him was simple. The youngest(11)loves the van, loves the open space and loves visiting new places.

Keep on vanning, never mind everyone else, its your choice.

When my husband changed jobs his new colleagues pulled his leg when they saw the Caravan Club sticker and tow hitch. When three of them came to dinner with their wives we ended up with them all sat in our Senator. They have all bought caravans now and we will meet up with two of them in Fance next month.

Janet we find time abroad in the caravan is cheaper than staying here. Cost of ferry fare is off set by cheaper fuel and cheaper better camp sites. Food and drink and everything from eating out to parking is cheaper than the UK. We leave for France on Sunday and come back mid September.

I'm divorced and back in the dating game and it's always a bit of a dilemma when to drop into the conversation about me being a caravanner.

It always crosses my mind when going on a date that I might be meeting up with the female version of Jeremy Clarkson.

So far I've only had one negative response.

Most of the image problem is down to the negative publicity that we receive, have you noticed that every time that a caravan is featured on TV it's always stuck in the middle of a field, pouring with rain with the occupants sitting with miserable faces playing cards or Monopoly.
