Front seat passenger in France

I think I have read somewhere of an age/height restriction for children travelling in the front seat of a car but cannot find the relevant information. Can anyone advise please?

Children under the age of ten can't travel in the front passenger seat, UNLESS there is no unused seat in the back, and they must wear an appropriate seat belt, or be in an appropriate car seat if other regulations require it.

Have a look at the UK regulations - you will find something similar and it may well be that the UK regs are harmonised with the EU.

UK regs show age exceptions if the child is of a certain minimum height and otherwise explain the rules for front seats and booster cushions.
