Hi Colin , I've never worked out the figs for my maverick (Ford badged Terrano)but yours seems very low.

I delivered a caravan to north Norfolk on Saturday , towing there and solo back at speed and a rough calc would suggest a figure in the low 20's

I would think with more careful driving I could achieve mid 20's.

BTW mine has 123k on the clock and still goes like a train ;O)

Brian,

Does that mean you have gone off the rails ) lol

My Terrano auto used to do 22,23 mpg around town & towing 1600 kgs.

A manual should do better

Colin,

I fully agree with the responses so far, I owned an imported (Cyprus)Terrano II, 2.7TDi from new on a '05 plate.

The first 1000 miles or so, it proved to be a bit thirsty but as the engine loosened up the figures were simlar to the others given so far.

We took it fully loaded, with roof box and childs cycle on the roof and pulling our T/A Wyoming to Cornwall in 2006 and it was returning well over 20 mpg.

As a comparison, we are curently using a VW Touareg 3.0 TDi, which solo at 70 mph is averaging 32 mpg on a run, and 22 mpg towing.

The latter figure was on a recent trans-Pennine route which was very hilly and not all dual carriageway, so I'm hoping for a further improvement on a long motorway run south.

Hi we too have a Maverick (Ford badged Terrano) 2.7TD and we get around 20-22 mpg (could be better with careful driving) when towing and around 30 mpg solo. We were toying with the idea of changing, but to be honest its a good car, reliable, and low road tax as pre 2001. See no reason to change at the moment. The only downside with ours is - it sometimes lacks power when towing, no idea why. We've got 125,000 miles on the clock and had a new clutch last September but otherwise we can cope with the mpg.
