fuel cost with towbar fitted

How much difference to cost of deisel when car has been fitted with a towbar.Does it make a big difference after towbar has been fitted?

sorry if that doesnt make sense...what I mean is....after fitting a towbar will I use more deisel (just driving without caravan)

I assume you query is regarding aerodynamics (ie drag) ?

If so Daniel is right, as the towbar is out of any "wake" of airflow as it is too low.

It would be different if you had a roofrack or roofbox though.

Actually Linda you will use slightly more fuel with the tow bar fitted, aerodynamics aside, you've increased the unladen (kerbside) weight of the car by the weight of the tow bar.

But don't worry the increase in fuel consumption will be so miniscule that under normall driving conditions you'll not notice any difference at all!

Not wanting to sound aggresive or argumentative but are you serious?

Try washing the car more often to make it more aerodynamic as all the dirt particles will result in more drag

Any additional weight in, or on, a vehicle will increase it's fuel consumption. A towbar will make a slight difference but less than the effect of an extra passenger.

A difference, yes, but not enough to measure outside a laboratory.
