Have been watching Sky news. Hope they can put out this horrendous fire soon. My thoughts go to the people affected by it. Trish.

I was wondering the same . There is a big storage site nearby fire run by Dacorum council with very good security and I was wondering if any caravan owners who have their caravan stored there have been able to get to the site to see whether their caravans have sustained damage ?

I hope not !

Regards

Mark.

I lived in Hemel for 30 odd years and my last house was in the blast zone, one before that was in the evacuation zone. Knowing where the caravan club site is I would be surprised if there is anything left of any van on that site. Hopefully as the tanks that blew were on the opposite side of the depot to the caravan club then the tanks that didnt blow will have absorbed the blast. But if there was clear line of site from the blown tanks to the vans they will be ruined as they are probably 1000 yards or less from the tanks.

Hi Richard, nice to see someome else from Treacle Bumstead. I used to live in Wood Lane End,the house in front of the old squash club(owned by my then father in law)only a few hundred yards from Buncefield perimeter fence. Ive not heard any reports about the CC site being damaged and can only hope it is ok. I would imagine the storage site was hit hard as it is on the same access road to Buncefield and is of a very open nature. On sunday my parents called to tell me about the explosion ,thier loft door was blown open and they live about 4 miles away. The smoke passed over our house in St Albans for most of sunday making it very gloomy.I saw the fire on Monday on my way to work, nothing on the TV could show you the size of the flames or the amount of smoke, how nobody died amazes me....Brian

Me and my lady Hayley were at the CC site at Crystal Palace at the weekend- both half awake at 6.00am when we heard the boom- then the caravan shook gently with the shockwave. Thought it was local until we turned the freeview on about 40 mins later and saw what had happened. Can't believe that we felt it from so far away.

Later that day as we drove into Knightsbridge (free parking STILL on Sundays in Central London!) the smoke was coming over...spooky!

wow not heard it called treacle bumstead for ages, never did figure out how hemel hempstead became treacle bumstead but there you go. Many years ago I had lots of dealing with the car traders / mechanics that worked behind the bugalow called sunswept which was on the border of the site I dont suppose theres much left of it now.
