Steve & Wendy.

I have worked bloody hard for what I have too,and by the way I've owned several 4X4 in the past.

I do believe in free choice and also buying the right vehicle for the job.

Next time you pass a school, just have a look to see how many Disco's, Mitsy's, Dual cabs and Range rovers you can see, then look to see how many actually have a tow bar or fresh mud on them. Then I'm sure you'll see where the "chelsea tractor" comments come from.

All my 4X4's were bought with one thing in mind, towing to the max (3500Kgs)which they did very well. But with a 40 foot turning circle and fuel guzzeling at 25mpg at best, they were crap as everyday cars.

My Laguna does 40 mpg solo and 29.5 mpg towing to the max which is more palletable given todays cost of motoring.

Why not convert your anguish into a fuel protest!!

Steve,

Good for you that your Laguna does 29.5mpg towing. As our Discovery has now been well worn in at over 80,000 miles on the clock, it does 25mpg towing. That's not alot of difference!

As our van comes in at 1896k, the Disco tows it at 85% safely!

and for the princely sum of an extra 4.5 mpg in comparison. Not worth talking about!

Did'nt I read on one of your posts you are towing a twin axle at 100%? - better you than me!!!

As your van is 1896Kgs it must be a twin axle and aas I'm sure you know, they tow very well indeed.

I can tow at 70mph if need be quite safely and the braking is good too with four wheels doing the work on the van. Uphill the car is obviously low on the power but carefull use of the gearbox does mean a 1 in 5 is still climbable.

With unleaded fuel at 4p per litre less than diesel I'm actually running at simlar cost per mile when towing but solo I'm 38% better off on running cost's

My choice of car is cost driven based on what the most usage is.

Roger - I certainly agree that the Oil Companies are a vital part of the UK economy and most certainly agree with your comment that the dividend income from their shares goes to boost pension funds.

But what a shame Gordon Brown saw fit to tax this same Dividend Income! He now collects
