I have one of those 12v cat scarers, it is fixed on a wooden pole facing my garden pond with goldfish in. Never seen a cat in years around the pond, it works for me. I run the cable along the hedge and then inside to plug the transformer in with my electrics for the pond pump and filter.

They work well for a while. The first few times that cats trigger the noise they take off like they have just had a size 12 boot where the sun don't shine but after a while the persistent ones get used to it.

Worked fine in the front garden for a few months and now everyone seems used to it the poo is building up again. The Dowgs keep the back garden clear of cats!! One thing I did do once, didn't stop cats but a certain satisfaction in knowing that the thick axle grease that I put all around the top of the fence was getting walked into the owners' houses!!

Why don't you make up a scarecrow to look like either Blair or Brown? That is enough to scare the living sh.. out of any thing!

ha ha surfer , i dare not put a scare crow of any of our political past or present , that would mean they are welcome , and they would claim animal rights , and it would cost 1000s and take 10 years to shift them , lol

Of course my current proposal to deal with cats and their owners, and the neighbours and of course any boys that come within 3 miles of the girls is one that swmbo won't allow, I think I'd be a rather good shot with the right specs on and my left eye shut.

We suffer with cats that use our gravel as a public convenience (and we have a cat ourselves) and we have the electronic device that emits a high pitched noise, have tried pepper spray, gel and orange peel and nothing works. We thought we'd cracked it one winter only to discover that the gravel was too hard for them to scrape up so they'd used our flower troughs instead and there were about 40 cigars frozen solid in each trough!!! I have heard that lion or tiger poo from a zoo will help but not sure how you go about buying it!

Hi Lisa
Some garden centres sell lion poo pellets

We can testify that they work very well. If you were a little moggy would you venture into an area where something a lot bigger than you may be lurking? It was very popular in South Africa but then lion poo was easy to get hold of before it went into garden shops .

Hmmm judging by the stray cat that keeps coming into our house and eating our cats food - it may be an idea to think about actually purchasing a real lion to keep the little b**ger out as the other day, my son 'forgot' to shut and lock the internal door into the kitchen and the lounge and Misty and the stray went 10 rounds in our lounge, knocking vases and a Gallileo Thermometer out of the window and smashing them ... clumps of fur everywhere, but more annoyingly - deep scratches in our leather settee. I was not happy at all with my son who knows better. Bless him though, he did some research on the internet on how to remove scratches from a leather settee with fine sandpaper. I turned down his kind offer of cosmetic repair with said sandpaper though!
Any ideas on how to discourage a stray - we've squirted it with water but the poor thing is obviously starving - or it's just a greedy little thing that has owners and is chancing its luck!
