For some time we have used 1 red bottle and 1 blue bottle of gas in the front locker,kept thinking I will change the blue for red,but then it meant new pigtail and the spanner to change bottles.Anyway looked at our rubber hoses at the weekend and the date on them was 1991,so they had migrated with us each time we changed the van.I found a company called "Continental" based in Norfolk that supplied 2 new stainless steel pigtail hoses with handwheels to connect to the propane red bottle,and they delivered them to me the day after placing order, they are claimed to have 20 year life.Really pleased with the service and we now have 2 red bottles that can be changed without a spanner. Might be worth having a look at the date on your hoses next time you are in the gas locker.

. Mind you we bought a new stainless steel pigtail when we last changed the van. Some say (as Clarkson puts it) that the stainless steel hoses are less likely to lead to regulator blockages but I think that there are others that disagree.

Change mine every 5 years, have a gaslow change over gauge which means two new pigtails. The new ones are not dated, so made a note in the service booklet.
You should check your hoses to gas bottles . There is a date on them and they should be changed at intervals I believe its something like every four years .but dont quote me on that Im sure somebody will come along and correct me if that is wrong

All gas pigtails, and hose for cylinder mounted regulators, should be marked with its manufacture date which is in the form of a 4 digit number, like 28/12 for week 28 of 2012.
There should also be a standard date , mostly 1999.
The hose or pigtail should be changed every 3 years at most, sooner if any damage at all.
The time for change starts from the first time gas is passed through it, and there should be a note on your service sheet if it was changed.
As long as the pigtail or hose has been correctly stored it does not degrade , until gas is passed through it.
I always put a sticker in the gas locker with date of change and next due change date.
