Gas bottle prices

Well after 5 years of usage we've had to change the gas bottle if we wanted dinner tonight.

Limited availability where we are but managed to get a 6kg propane from Morrisons at just over £41.

At home we use 19kg bottles at £56 a go. Better value but won't fit the front locker.

We have 2x6kg that came with the van, still on the first bottle with a full one to go. being sasonal we are allowed 2 bottles and can go to 19kg. Avanti gas seems the best in Somerset wher the van is. But they have no customer vacancies. We have a problem in that our gas locker is on the side, and we have no room there for a bottle outside. I could put it at the front, but thats a long way to run a high pressure line, so i am not comfortable with that.

My plan B is to get a 10kg gaslight. I think it will fit in the locker. I also think I have found. Supplier that will swap my Flogas 6kg for the 10kg bottle. A bit of a minefield.

Flogas policy is to leave pricing to their retailers.

Flogas seem to have made significant inroads into Calors market around our area and their outlets also generally sell the lightweight gaslights too. Guess it’s still Calor on local sites though.

I would warn viewers to be VERY careful if proposing to change to a gaslight of either size. The are quite a lot bigger diameter that a 6kg Propane Calor or Flogas. Metal is 256mm, gaslight is 305mm or about two inches.

We have a Unicorn Deluxe which has space for two bottles but one sits lower than the other because of the offside wheel A gaslight will not fit either position.

Count your blessings you don’t have to use Campingaz. £48 for refilled exchange bottle that only holds 2.75kg.

I fit a 10kg and 5kg gas-lite (Flowgas) in the side locker on my Unicorn S3 Vigo. If the locker is the same size - you are good.
