I am shortly due to embark on a 4.5 week holiday to France. I recall reading in one of the motorhome magazines that one company were renting out foreign gas bottles. You pay a deposit and then return the bottle when you have completed your tour. Does anyone know if this is still the case and where I can obtain a bottle?

Hi Chris,

Can't help with your quest but do you really need to? Assuming you are using hook-up you are only likely to be using gas for cooking. We rarely use a full 6Kg propane in a month abroad and even when our fridge failed to work on electrics for 3 weeks we still did not use all of both cylinder that we always take. As a stand by I have taken a Camping Gaz cylinder with me which is available throughout Europe but can't now until I can find a new tail for the built-in regulator. You do of course need a separate regulator for Camping Gaz.

I agree with Alan. The first year we took the van to France I took 2 full bottles, and when we came back, I re weighed them to find we'd only used about 1Kg of gas! And that was with the bbq going too. After all you can buy Camping Gaz bottles all over the place if you had too
