Morning All

I know i have seen a list on this forum that someone kindly posted with the weight of all the kit they carried but i cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know the weight of a full 6KG propane cylinder, i have rang calor and the guy i got was about as much use as a ashtray on a motorbike !

i have weighed the two i have and 1 is 13.0kg & the other 11.1kg but they don't seem very full

Thanks All

The actual weight of the cylinders varies a little.

If you look at your cylinders you will find either on a metal tab around the collar - or stamped on the cylinder a weight - usually in lbs and oz. This is the empty weight of that cylinder - all you need to do then is convert to kg and add 6 for the gas - or for those who prefer imperial add 13lb 3oz.

From my recollection the standard calor cylinder weight about 7 kg

I've just gone through this exercise and it's nearer to 9kg for the bottle making 15kg in total. Calor replacement lite bottles are under 5kg and are generally replaced at the standard refill rate. you can save the best part of 10kg by changing bottles the next time you exchange ( if you carry two bottles that is !)

Certainly helps balance the books on the noseweight calcs.

Hi Pete,

I've just been through the replacement performance with Calor Lite cylinders.

My local caravan dealers have informed me that the there is no deal to replace the ordinary 6kg cylinders with a Calor Lite cylinder for the price of the gas only. You have to now purchase the cylinder as well(an additional

A word of caution on Calor Lite. If you plan in touring in Ireland, even N.Ireland which is part of the UK and use Calor Lite or BP lite make sure you have enough gas for your whole trip before you leave as despite the fact that Calor do operate in N.Ireland, they do not market Calor Lite over here. A couple of mainland ralliers who attended the Caravan Club Irish National Rally in Londonderry over Easter ran fowl of this. To save them having to buy a new normal cylinder we lent them a normal cylinder for the rest of the rally.

I email Calor customer service and was told that Calor NI had no plans to introduce Calor Lite ever over here. Also BP do not seem to sell their cylinders in Ireland either. Another example of N.Irish UK citizens being treated as second class by yet another company.

Hi Jasper,

Rang them today, the lady I spoke to told me that they had four CalorLites in but had been told not to exchange them for the normal 6kg bottles.....only like for like.

Thaks for the info. however.

Ron.

Sorry Ron as I say I have exchanged 2 normal cylinders with them in the past and only paid for the gas, things must have changed.

I have various experience with the calor lite bottle. My caravan dealer charges a premium even if i swap lite for lite. I no longer use them. Not sure if every one thinks its right but I have recently swapped heavy bottles for lite ones at 2 different BP garages for just the cost of gas. Some may think this wrong but I did buy lite bottles at extra cost originally but when needing gas on a site they could only provide me with heavy full ones as they had no lites available. but keep your eye open at the garages you might save 5 or 6 quid.
