Hi...I'm having trouble with gas on my van...The van is stored inside and I've had the gas shut off and the fridge disconected (gas + elec) and out for a few week while waiting for a new 240v element and thermostate to be fitted...just connected it back up and gone to check everything...fridge works on 240v elec ok but can't get it working on gas now, also can't get cooker or hob working...all were working fine before I disconnected the fridge...the carver heater is working ok...the gas taps under the sink are all open...the van is level....anybody any ideas????....the van is a Elddis EX300 Cyclone 1997 using propane I belive...it's an orange bottle

If the carver heater is working on gas then the rest will probably be air in the system which just needs purging.

The fridge allows only a small amount of gas past the jet and can take some time to clear of air, the cooker should be quicker.

How long should it take to purge? I've had one of the hobs on and open for about 2 to 3 mins

Two or three minutes should be plenty, first then I'd suggest you set the dial to the lighting position and then pull the knob off.

If it now lights, the problem is the knob is hitting the fascia before it's opening the valve, solution is a packer in the hole in the back of the knob to hold it back a millimetre or so.

Another possible is rust has been dislodged in the pipe leading to the burner jet and it's now blocking said jet

That would explain the fridge not working, but there is no gas coming out of the hob or oven either...so I can't see all the knobs being worn....would it help to put a new full bottle on? The one on at mo is about a half to two-thirds full.

Sorry didn't read our original post fully, so when you turn a hob burner on you should be able to hear gas or air being pushed by gas coming from it? can you??

I find the isolating valves illogical, the position looks like the gas is in the off position, when its on.

Perhaps try the pther position?

My Dometec frigde used two 240v elelments in the first year.

Is yours a dometec?

Well theres a blockage somewhere but all appliances leaded off, I'm assuming, a set of manifold taps is confusing?!

Just to be sure about the taps, the handle of any '90 deg turn' type gas tap has a longer length than it's width.

When OFF the length is across the the line of the supply pipe 'leading to' the appliance, ie, blocking the way.

When ON the length is along the line of the supply pipe, ie, pointing the way.

With the big red knob type taps, (or any tap where the handle is potentially removable), is it possible some are on their spindles the wrong way round??

Knobs being fitted wrong is clutching at straws I know, other than that though, I'm a bit baffled!!

At this point I don't want to bring possible 'oil' contamination into it? no surely not!

Ye domitec/electrolux rm4233s....should have a 105w 240v element and it was fitted with a 125w...seems ok now

Happy to have helped.

I worked with various pipe systems for 25 years, compressed air, Argon,Nitrogen, oxygen, steam, propane.

With all manner of isolating valves. But always have to check twice with the van valves!

I would have thought a 20w difference of no importance.

In fact i would think it the better for quicker cooling.

Perhaps physical size is the issue?

The failures i had were i believe due to poor quality elements,

Also its important to make sure the element is fitted correctly in its pocket, for efficient operation and long life.
