hi we are going to france for 5 weeks we have 2, bottles of callor gas can you get these in france or do i have to buy different bottles and addaptors to fit, any addvice please franklin.

Sorry, but Calor gas is not available on the continent, so you will have to get different bottles.

You might consider Camping Gaz as it's 907 etc are readily available and exchangeable both here and in France as well as many other places.
You ought to be able to borrow one from a fellow camper as many of us keep hold of one for that very purpose.
However it is Butane so only suitable for summer use, unless its "inboard" as in some motorhomes.

I forgot to add it will need an adaptor that is readily available from camping accessory outlets or borrow that as well.
The adaptor converts to the same thread type as Calor use on their 4.5 kg Butane bottles.

As others have said, each country has it's own design of gas cylinder - in fact each company does - so with the exception of the universal Camping Gaz (but a very expensive way of buying gas) or BP GasLite (in some countries only - and not France) then I suggest your best option is to buy a Total Gaz "Twinny" or similar if you run out
Indeed during the summer, French hypermarkets sell Total or Elf or "own brand" gas bottles for a very sensible price... And the portable Twinny is really nice to use as a BBQ gas source...

If you are going for 5 weeks and start with 2 full 6kg Calor you should be OK unless you use gas heat extensively. Use electric whereever possible - many French sites will have 10 amps available (but accept many of the older ones may still have only 6). Some tourers carry a single electric hotplate which can save quite a lot of gas for slow cooking items.
I reckon to get around 40 days from each 6kg bottle.

A 13kg Calor Propane contains 60 killowatt hours of heat according to Calor.
Two 6kg Propane ( Similar amount of gas) should last nealy as long, as Ray S says.

I take one full Calor, and one CampingGaz. Use the CampingGaz for normal usage and only use the Calor for the very brief CampingGaz change over periods. But this can only be done if you CAN use butane, ie temperatures above 6 deg C or so.
