Gas regulator

As our regulator was nicked along with our 19 kg Calor gas propane bottle I have to fit a new regulator onto the hose.

Not quite the easy task I imagined it to be. No matter how hard I try I cannot seem to get the hose near the second notch on the regulator outlet pipe.

Could this be because the pipe which is about two years old has hardened or is there a secret squirrel way of getting the hose to cover all the notches and sitting flush with the regulator?

Ian,

As the hoses are recommended to be replaced after two years, then to be on the safe side I would fit a new hose to your new regulator,

best regards, Martin

Put the pipe in very hot water for a few minutes to soften and expand the rubber and a smear of something like vegetable oil on the regulator it should go on ok.

Ian, as you are not sure of the age of the hose, I would replace it now.

When putting the hose on, cover the end of the gas pipe with your finger and use a squirt of silicone lubricant on the stem , the hose will slide on ok then.

I checked and receipt shows that it was purchased last year in March. It is the thick walled synthetic rubber hose with minimum flexibility!

I will probably take down to the caravan shop and ask them to fit it on for me as I have arthritis in my wrists and hands and the Weetabix does not seem to be working.

Although the hose is only 18 months old, it has been exposed to the elements as the bottle was outside the front locker. I assume that this may have had a detrimental effect on the hose which is of the thick walled vareity. Tried the hot water but to no avail. Tomorrow I probably will go and buy 2 metres of the orange hose which is supposed to be a better quality hose and try fitting the regulator on that after my Wheaties.
