Hi gang, can some one tell me, is it possible to replace, the latest fitted type of regulator with the older bottle mounted type? Would the appliances work o/k etc. Bazz.

Your installed system has been designed, manufactured and approved for working with the new 30mB standard, as have the fitted appliances.
Under Health and Safety Law, it is an offence to use or install a system where the appliances are not supplied with fuel at the rated pressure, and thus the older 28mB Butane and 37mB Propane are legally incompatible.
This does seem rather ridiculous, as the 28mB butane is very close to the new 30mB and will probably fall within the accepted working pressure tolerances, but the law is the law.
To comply, you would need to have the system including all the appliances re rated and badged for the pressures you want to use, and a certificate of conformity issued by a certified fitter.
To do the conversion without having the system re-certified could render your insurance invalid, and leave you open to criminal prosecution under HSE regulations.
( All HSE prosecutions come under criminal rather than civil law)

Thank's for that John, I was'nt going to doo anything untill I had got some sort of feed back, and then only if all the work being passed, Bazz.
Yes John and a problem I have at the moment with a customer in Holland and a Carver2 burner module. His van and the module is 50mb, unaware I sent him one for 28-30-37mb which he quite rightly questioned.
He has now send the old one back (1991) for repair and what do I find, the important parts, valve, injector and burner are identical to the lower pressure one? I say identical but the 50mb jet is slightly bigger? 0.63 against 0.62 nevertheless both are marked 0.64. I could make sense of this the other way round but wide as it is and given the marked size, I can only put this difference down to tolerance and the one real difference then is the 50mb sticker!

There are 2 answers to this one, the technical and the legal. As mentioned by others, changing the original fittings could be invalidate your insurance, however, as many peope modify their vans in many ways there could be a lot of issues arising from that one. The technical answer is that the old 28mb regulator will work perfectly well, and can be used as a good get you home system. If any regulator you have is faulty then really that is an issue separate from what pressure it is rated to, but again it could depend on whether you burn your van down and the insurance Company gets sticky. The actual equipment in the van will work happily on either regulator
Also if your van was made prior to 2004 for UK vans and 2005 for European vans then you can use the old system perfectly legally.
If your reason for wanting to do this is that the 30mb regulator is failing, a common problem, then maybe changing the make and ensuring the regulator is higher than the valve on the cylinder, may help.

Thanks George and nearly still with you in Skeg as well? I think the AA's getting fed up with me!!!
In the camping and carravanning magazine last monthe they said that the problem with the new regulator was thought be the gas leaching out chemicals from the pipe and recommended that the regulator be above the bottle outlet,as Scotch lad says. On my van I have an automatic switch over above the regulator which makes it above the gas outlet.

I have a new Van(also our first) and have just spoken to my dealer and he tells me that the problem with the regulators is now solved and it would show up very quickly if you have a problem
We have only used van once so far for 6 days when we got it would the fault have apeared in that time?
we are away in spain next month should we take a spare or can we buy something there?
I do not want to go over the top with spares etc
