gas ring will not stay lit

HI..Question...just the front gas ring will not stay lit...everything else is working ie gas fridge,fire,etc. no problems. just the gas ring..we reported it to glossop caravans who gave premission for us to use a qualified gas engineer in our area to do the work under warranty..he change what he thought was a faulty thermocouple...this still didn't slove the problem...our van " a swift charisma" 2011...has been back at intervals for the said reason. I have kept glossop caravans inform of this problem ...as of now its back at glossop for repair..my question is ( Can we still claim the repair under warranty ? the gave us 15 months which is up . but its been an on going problem. the engineer who has service our van is puzzle as to what is causing the burner to fail to stay in .i have sent Thetford an email to which i have had no reply. has anyone else had this problem. There is an electromagnet in the cooker tap that is activated by the very small voltage generated by the thermocouple,a new tap will fix it,I would hope the dealer would honour his word with the first repair cost although changing the tap would have been my next step even swapping with another tap on the hob would have proved what was wrong.

There have been quite a lot of similar problems with the Thetford Midi Prima range of cookers and a complete replacement set of themocouples was the repair that Thetford authorised, not just a single one.

As the fault has not been fixed then it is still "under warranty" as such as all repairs must be guaranteed for a minimum of six months.

Hello Michelle

You are in a strong position because you have reported this fault early on, and importantly before the end of the warranty period, That effectively stops the warranty clock, and because several attempts by professionals with the dealers permission it still persists, the dealer will have a hard task refusing to continue to correct the problem, even if it needs a replacement hob.

Dave's suggestion may be the answer, in which case it wont cost the dealer the earth. but its shame its taking so long.

Hello Michelle, I just tried to send a reply and 'lost 'it' so Sorry if this comes up twice. I had a similar problem with the cooker in my Bailey. Cannot remember the make of stove, but I removed two cross head screws on the top of the ring and brushed the inside with an old toothbrush .it had a fair amount of what looked like small flakes of rust and burnt paint. Clean all the flame ports paying special attention to the port that feeds the flame to the thermal coupling. It did the job and now works fine.
