HI

Just bought my first ever caravan which has a 'Gaslow' gas system. I seems pretty good as it has refillable bottles which are filled up at a petrol station with LPG, and has a fitted change-over systems from one bottle to the other with level and pressure metres etc.

Does anyone know the system or has got it, and can give any advice on filling up etc.

Thanks

Sizzler

Hello Andy

You will need to check with your filling station if they actually allow portable Refillable LPG bottles to be refilled at the forecourt.

In the UK the operator's licence may only permit the refilling of fixed tanks and preclude the refilling of portable bottles.

Hi,

As i understand it the problem with refilling portablecanisters is that they don't regulate their own fill level to 80% like a car LPG tank does. the Gaslow system does this so its not a problem.

My only bug bear with gas low is what do you do if you're on site with awning etc set up and you run out of gas?.....

Its expensive to fit but as you had it fitted already you're quids in! pump LPG is loads cheeper than buying 6Kg bottles.

Andy I am sure you are right in that as your Gaslow system has a fixed external filling point you will not contravene any restrictive orders.

I hope so as its to be fitted to my new van and this is an issue I have looked into.

Concerning Gareth's point of running out, I am countering this with a 11kg Gaslow together with a 6kg Calor emergency rather than your two Gaslows. It will be a considerably cheaper capital cost as well as I have the Calor + 30mb regulator and a low pressure change over valve already.

Hi JTQ

Your set up sounds ideal, but with 11Kgs you'd get alot of use before have to switch to emergency. If the standard set up is twin 11kgs you'll have ample for quite a long stay.

One thing, If you go abroard you'll need an adaptor to fill up over there, i got one at the garage thats first exit off the docks spur at Calais, probably best to get one in the Uk before going though! JTQ , you could always swap your propane regulator for Camping Gaz couldn't you?

Hi Andy. The system you have got looks very interesting. I picket up a leaflet at the NEC show and have been looking into it. It's a bit expensive to set up but if your van already has it.....

My only hesitation is that I understand LPG is not available for fill ups in Spain. I have asked for feedback on this before on this forum, but so far not been able to prove or disprove this.

As for running out of gas on site, I think the answer is to top up regularly when on the road - the advantage of the system is that you don't have to wait until it is empty, and you only pay fo what you add to the tank - like filling up a car!

I would be very interested to hear how you get on with the system.

Regards

Keith

Hi Andy,

I've had the system for nearly 3 years now you wont have any problems filling up as its classed as part of the vehicle the same as it is on a car.I have the smaller cylinder with a calor as a spare i last bought a calor cylinder over 3 years ago and i caravan all year round so you can imagine how much i saved in that time, by the way how much is a calor cylinder now?

Regards Paul
