Before we begin, let's bear in mind that Geist don't like critical posts about their caravans

They complain to PC, PC alerts the Mods, and the Mods get Modding.

So, let's keep on the sunny side.

Geist are WONDERFUL, their customer service is AWESOME, their response to problems is EXEMPLARY and their presnce in the UK market for years to come is ASSURED.

One smply cannot say enough good things about Geist - every dealer I've ever spoken to agrees that they are AMAZINGLY HELPFUL and their their decision to pioneer direct internet selling was nothing short of COMMERCIAL BRILLIANCE.

If you get a problem, why, just ring up Geist and you'll find that they will BEND OVER BACKWARDS to help you, they are unfailing POLITE, they will always do EXACTLY what they say, and are a ROLE MODEL for British industry.

What's more, most of their customers feel the way that I do about Geist - c'mon and join the fun.

I've no idea of how Geist react to criticism but I can assure you that it would have absolutely no bearing on any action taken by the forum Moderators.

We remove insulting posts for sure but genuine well founded criticism which can be backed up with proof are not treated any differently to praise of any brand, the aim of the forum is to present fair and well balanced information.

Looking back over previous posts the general consensus seems to be that Geists are solidly built but beware if they are fitted with aluminium window frames because these frames could cause condensation.

That's probably true of you, Parksy - but (sadly) you are not the only Mod here. Others seem rather less fair.

We have the year and model you are considering - Geist Xklusiv 630. Been using it for around a year now.

We have had no major problems with the 'van (blind became unsprung) and we have found the dealer we bought it from to be very helpful. Never had to buy any spares but since it is basically a LMC I think most parts would be available.

It's noticably more solid than most equivilent Brit built vans and all the fittings etc seem to be good quality. I know solidity doesn't neccessarily equate to "better" but we have had no QC issues either. It doesn't have all the bells & whistles (no microwave / alarm etc) but it does have LOTS of storage space and the rear bed is seperated by a proper sliding ply door rather than flimsy paper blinds.

The lack of kit runs to no bog roll holder or towel rail in the bathroom. No paper towel holder / plate racks etc in the kitchen which we felt was a bit mean but didn't detract sufficiently over the superior build quality to put us off. We just took a run to ikea and kitted it out ourselves.

It has no onboard tank or internal pump - but I personnally prefer the simplicity of this

The underfloor heating does not live up to it's toasty toes advertising. It's very muted and subtle. It does make a difference though.

Another irritating point is the table is used to make up the front bed. It's an excellent sturdy bed but that damn table is heavy and there's nowhere to store it despite all the storage space! Finally on the negative side the fridge is small for such a big van.

On the positive side the shower is almost full size and water pressure is excellent (a problem on some Geists). The oven is better than the one we have at home! The island bed is brilliant and the proper bedside tables make it a very comfortable private place with the proper door shut. The TV point is in a great place for a wall mounted Flat screen (and the ply can easily take the weight unlike some Brit vans). There is a large drying wardrobe above the heater and loads of other storage. The front locker is massive and solid, in fact the whole van is particularly solid.

In conclusion - we think it's great but of course not perfect. The island bed makes it a proper mini home and the van works for us in a 1001 subtle ways. Storage lockers and proper internal doors, thick ply walls, walking around without a cacaphony of squeaks and strains etc aren't exactly sexy and don't "sell" a van as readily as bling but you have room to retro-fit anything you may find you can't live without to what is a good solid set up. A bit like buying a bike - get a good frame and you can upgrade the rest!

Love our Aktiv AK495. Only had 1 minor fault - the front locker was sticking quite badly at Easter (probably frozen shut as it was snowing while we were away!). We were in the North East on holiday anyway so phoned Geist who fitted us into their workshop the next day as we were passing on our way home. They made us and our kids very welcome and fixed the problem in about half an hour. We'd also broken part of the table mounting strip at the rear of the van (totally our fault as we tried to force the connection) and they fixed this for free, no questions asked. We would have been happy to pay as it was our mistake but wasn't an issue.

We dealt with Dave Wood at Geist Gateshead and he was very helpful.
