Hi

Do any caravan repair specialists out there have league tables showing which caravans come in for damp problems the most so I can avoid them!!!

I bought a Swift Challenger (1998) three years ago and it quickly developed a 'soft spot' by the battery compartment on the offside front. I am told its damp and its getting worse.

I believe the people we bought if off knew about this and wanted to get rid. I would love to know how long it will be before we have to scrap it!!! I asked a caravan repair shop how I could guarantee the next van will not have this problem and he said there aren't any! He has recently had a Bailey Pegasus in with damp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
How we wish such a league table existed Karen!

Unfortunately water ingress or damp can and does affect any and every caravan including the much vaunted German or continental caravans with the solid build quality that is much talked about on forums.

One way to try to minimise the effects of water ingress is regular servicing where at least signs of damp should be spotted early on and remedial action taken.
 
Karen its the luck of the draw, depending who (the assembler is) depending on what time of day ,My last caravan developed nasty cracks due to faulty assembly , had to be, not every caravan developed these cracks, all made with the same materials, One manufacturer is offering 10 years warranty on their vans, the only snag to achieve this,you have to have them service the van.
