Hello, this is my first post on this Practical caravan, myself and my wife have a nice little Bailey Pageant Monarch 2002 if excellent condition.

I Just purchased a 2.3 KVA Generator with built in circuit breaker for general use including the caravan, are the any pit falls that i need to know about when using a generator with the caravan?

We live in North East Scotland and are planning on going to the highlands for a week to the middle of nowhere, so as long as we have the genny and gas we should be ok.

Any advice much appreciated

David, there are several things to bear in mind when using a genny on a caravan.

First is what type of genny? 2 stroke or 4.

Second is has it got inverter technology built in or not?

If it is a 2 stroke then they need very regular maintainence to keep them at their best.

A 4 stroke still need maintaining but they ar eless critical than 2 stokes.

If it has not got inverter technology then never let it run out of fuel when connected to the van, they can produce spikes of up to 320volts and more which will destroy the van electronics.

When you first start it up, let it run for a while to reach operating temperature before connecting to the van, and make sure all electics are off in the van , then only turn on one appliance at a time to allow the genny to catch up.

It is no good trying to run heating at 2000w plus fridge, charger, lights, tv etc etc all at the same time, it could cause the genny to give a very rough output.

Remember the cost of running it, with fuel just going up anoter 2p litre to about 117p per litre, they are not cheap to run, and even the quiet ones are noisy and can be quite a nuisance at times.

I know that it is a 4 stroke, but not sure about the Inverter though
