Generators

With a move to another CC local center we can now use a generator on site for a short time each day.

After reading a lot of litriature I came across this

Now, I don't wish to upset the editor of that mag but

WHAT ARE THEY DOING? all but 1 of the generators tested could damage a modern motorhome or van. Only the honda has the ability to monitor its output and not spike the delicate electronics in a van.

Also, why did they not test the second biggest seller in europe? Seems odd to me.

Anyway, if you are looking for a generator, do not spend the £600 it suggests on a Honda when half of that will get a Kipor with 2.5 times it output and all the clever electric to protect your van. And they are whisper quiet.

Come on Haymarket, before doing this type of test inform the reader about the pitfalls of using cheap generators on modern vans.!

Whoops, made a mistake. here it is again:

I bet that they didn't include the SMC Smart Fuel Cell, either. Absolutely silent and lightweight, therefore ideal for caravanning.

I went on to that fuel cell site and it looks like a really good piece of equipment

What a great idea except I would be worried about having methonol inside my garage let alone my van. We used to use the stuff to fuel our grasstrack and speedway bikes. Very volitile.

Methanol - safer than petrol - less volatile, higher flash point (needs to be warmer to ignite methanol but a match will of course set both alight) - and if you do have a methanol fire you can put it out with water.

And in a fuel cell it burns clean - just Carbon Dioxide and Water
