German caravans

Hi,

We're considering getting a new caravan and would like to at least look at a German one (Hymer, Burstner, Geist etc) but we are having a hard time finding anywhere in the south to do this - anyone know a dealer vaguely near us (we're in Surrey, near Gatwick airport)?

Also, from the few websites that show layouts, I cannot find any German vans with fixed bunks that also have a separate shower cubicle in the washroom - any suggestions?

How about the Hymer Eriba Nova 580? All the others that I'm aware of are over 2.3m wide and would therefore be a problem to tow legally in the UK.

Most of the German vans comply with the UK regs.

I have a Burstner which is 2.3 mtrs wide.

The same can be said of Fendt, Dethleffs, Hymer, Geist.

Sorry I cant help you with a dealership by you. We bought ours from Camper UK in Lincoln.

I was specifically referring to German caravans with a separate shower cubicle. I have been unable to find one which is not over 2.3m wide, except the Nova 580.

By the way, Geist is not really a German caravan, but a British make, built in Germany. It is unknown on the German market.

Lowdham (Hymer dealers) have a branch at Reading tel. 0845 634 3297,great looking and build caravans but poor basic shower facilities, stopped us buying one.Bought Swift Conqueror instead, equally as good build quality and proper seperate shower/Toilet and bang up to date.Fantastic van.

Coincidentally, we were at Lowdhams this weekend. Yes, the Hymers are great quality but the prices are scary - they have last years 530K which is almost what we want but it is

Your right does not seem to be any dealer /agent in the south.

Round stone caravans lightwater west sussex used to stock them.

Most of the agents seem to be up north. Barrons you oould try. Looked for you n the web but not much again there in the south.Sorry Steve

Hi Neil ,

just looking thru messages and came across yours for info on Geist caravans,we have a Geist xk565.which has two single beds and full washroom. the same stlye in a swift would have cost us 4000 more than we paid.just had lots of nik-naks you never need, and we cannot fault this van at all .We have been caravanners for 30 plus years and have tried out a few over this time ,but Geist come out close to the top of the list..

anyway, look on www.geistforlife.com [I think thats the right www's]{{ ask jeeves if it isn't }}

AKTIV 565 IS 13.995 AND AKTIV 560 12,995.

both of these have bunks and washroom .both are 5 berth ,I think the 560 is the better one ,as it gives you more 'eye space' for daytime sitting in .. the 565 seems all beds .. anyway I hope this info helps ,we live north of Birmingham and we travelled to www.southerncaravans.co.uk.way down near portsmouth.. they were geist dealers .. 2 years ago

regards Iris [ a seasoned traveller ]

Geist now only sell direct from Lincoln or Gateshead but you can have them serviced etc at your choice of local dealers within their network. You don't have to pay a delivery charge because they deal direct. We have a 5 berth AK495 and love it. It's very well built and the weight isn't too high like some German vans tend to be (ours has an MTPLM of 1390 kg which is lower than the Bailey and Ace vans that we were considering).
