We got to go to Gloucestershire in November or December to get some thing.

The thing is we are a bit stuck weather to go there & back in one day or stop on a CC site for 2 to 3 nights or just stop in a hotel for one night. Has we has we have only been caravanning only for just over a year now and with it being winter.

I would like to give it go but on the over hand I ham put of with the time of the year it is going to be.

So if we use the caravan were shud we stop & what do we need to now. What to do in winter when you use the caravan.

Hi Mark

Ok this is if it was me !!!!

I would use it as an excuse to have another little adventure !!

We are going to Henley end of october which is quite a way for us,hoping to find somewhere for bonfire night and also new year !! I think you possibly just need to take a bit more time due to the weather and early nights but if its wet and miserable why not be wet and miserable somewhere else!!! I'm sure there is a section somewhere on winter vanning, I know GrahamW has posted on the subject if he's out there I,m sure he'll give you some technical advice !! xxx

One other thing the thing that we are going to get. My son would wont to use it all the time. Has one of use has to be with him when he would be using it. So it would look like we would be going round the site all day & night. So me and the with would need a good week to get over it.

The CC offer two sites in the area, Broadway and Moreton in Marsh but it depends where you are going in Gloucestershire which is very big county.

Ian, I did hear that Moreton, although normally open all the year round, is closing this year for work but Broadway which is just inside Worcestershire is staying open.

Gloucester - sites and city - are featured in the Caravan Club magazine October 2005 which may help. We are booked into Moreton in Marsh early Dec. so it is at least open then. Ring them up to check later dates. Nearby Bourton on the Water is holding a Victorian shopping evening with Father Christmas, lights on tree once again set in the middle of the little river that flows through Bourton on Friday 2nd Dec. ( The tree in the river not Father Christmas ) Broadway, also not too far away, has a Christmas decoration shop open tuesdays to sundays in December. From the foregoing you might gather my better half is Christmas potty - I just drive - - and flex the plastic !

Mark - sorry can't really recommend any sites in Gloucs as I don't know of any. But I would thoroughly recommend vanning throughout the year. In winter the sites are cheaper and less crowded, some of the autumn colours are fantastic, and what's better than going for a good brisk walk on a cold & frosty sunny day, returning to your van for a good roast lunch & a few glasses of vino? The only thing you'll need to do is to change your gas over to propane which has a much lower boiling point (-60 I believe) as butane will only boil above 0 degrees C, so you might need to change your gas regulator too. In extremely cold weather you may also need to insulate your Aquaroll to stop it freezing over, and when you pack up don't forget to drain any water from the hot water tank, inboard tanks and toilet. You've paid a lot of hard earned cash for your van - use it all year and get the best return back on it.

One of the best sites in Gloucestershire is Cirencester Park,

very convenient for the town - walking distance, and it has plenty of hardstanding pitches - which are ideal for late season use.

We have stayed on the Cirencester site twice this year. I can honestly say that although it is a large site (over 200 pitches) it is one of our favourites. Because of the layout of the site it appears much smaller but goes on and on and on!!! The dog walk is second to none and the facilities are as one would expect on a CC site.

I understand, over the winter period, that hard standing only are available, but you shouldn't be put off by this as they are all quite large and well spaced. There is also a TV booster system which is necessary if you want to watch the odd programme. If you haven 't already got a 'booster' cable you can purchase one from Reception (
