Good pub food

Please can anyone recommend a pub that does good food (not designer food) anywhere around the Pickering area in North Yorkshire? We don't know the area and would be pleased to hear of any good ones where you have had a good meal.

Thanks in anticipation.

The site owner has given us names of some places, so we should be ok for eateries. The Lion at Blakey sounds good and has some amazing pictures on its site, of the pub in really deep snow. We shall take a trip up there, as the scenery from Blakey Ridge looks great too.

Tonka, this looks a great place. Many thanks for the recommendation.

Fish and chips are good in pickering, take the high street from the station and it's just on the left. Italian at the top of high street called Figaro's is good. The blackboard hotel heading from Pickering to Malton on the right just before flamingo land turning has done quite well, If you go over the moors through levisham and out towards Dalby forest the something and hounds on your left is good. As far as the town pubs go we're not sure as not used any as they all look like chains!!!!

Have fun!!
