I have received my AA renewal at £246.00. Green Flag have quoted £110.50 plus £28.00 if we want cover for any car that we are in.

The difference is that the AA cover myself and wife in any car whereas Green Flag cover our two cars and not the driver. This means that my daughter will be covered whilst driving the cars and does not need her own cover. Another saving.

Both cover road side assistance, home start and relay.

In view of the difference in cost am I missing something or are Green Flag really that much cheaper.

Has any one experience of Green Flag ?

We are CC members and have Green Flag Mayday which starts at £65. We have added on Home Start and Extra`Care taking it up about £85. We have had to call them out twice for the vehilces in about as many years and they were quite prompt. One call was at about 5am. Big saving as AA are pricing themselves out of the market.

Yes green flag through caravan club really are that much cheaper. Never had any problems with them, excellent service and because they use a network of local garages are often with you within the half hour. Had four punctures last year and they were very good. Broke down a couple of years ago and were towed back with van about 200 miles, regular stops when my daughter needed a comfort break, even concern shown over getting the car onto the drive without the ramps unlevelling the gravel. Can't praise them enough.

I have taken out breakdown cover with an insurance company.
It covers me or anybody living at my address for home start, breakdown, recovery + caravan
I have had this policy for the last 4 years & only costs £38 per year. In the event of a breakdown I call the number Pay the bill & then claim the money back from the insurance company.
As long as you have a reliable car it works out cheaper in the long run

Cannot fault Green Flag.

Check the small print on other company policies !!!!
Green Flag (Mayday) have no limitation on caravan length, for starters.
Would the AA take your caravan away if the car brokedown ??

Green Flag (Mayday) is a joint venture between the CC and Green Flag and therefore specifically tailored to the caravanner, not what someone thinks we need.

I've just taken a policy out with Green Flag after a few years break (got free cover from RAC with my bank account).

I paid £85 for the top one (no European cover as we don't need it). I never thought to go through the CC (as we're in that).

We had previously called out Green Flag twice I think, once when the wheel came off the van and the chasis was on the actual road, I did tell the call centre operator we'd need some sort of a truck as the caravan could not be towed. However, the Green Flag (which I believe are local garages? not sure), came with a vehicle to tow the van. After a phone call from the bloke, etc when he realised straight away, the van would have to be loaded on a low loader or whatever they're called, we had to wait another 40 minutes (which wasn't a problem for us).

I again called out green flag when I was towing on the A30 and a flat bed lorry carrying junk passed us and a lorry bumper flew off the back and wedged itself under the rear car wheels. I pulled onto the hard shoulder but there was no way we were going to attempt to remove the bumper due to the fast and heavy traffic. Again, excellent service from Green Flag, done and dusted in 30 minutes. (We didnt know it was a lorry bumper when it happened, so didn't know if it had caused damage to the underside of the car, or van or whatever.

We had the RAC out when my husband accidentially put petrol in the diesel tank, again a quick service but we did have to pay for the tank to be emptied, which you would expect to do.

We have caravan club/green flag Mayday called them out when tow car overheated on M62. Car put on low loader, caravan towed behind no problems, at all. Prior to that used AA and had a similar problem but AA van which came didn't have the correct towing stuff for the caravan and when renewal came up it was loads more than CC/Mayday so we changed.

hi, yes green flag mayday via the CC every time called them last year when the car was damaged on holiday brilliant service I was in the AA for 30 years but changed cover when reading the small print on renewal apparently if the car was immobile then the van would be recovered ok but if the van was at fault and the car was ok TOUGH your on your own??and may day it's 1/3 the price of the AA even with the subs to the CC, added on """"no contest"""

Another thought, last year tried RAC through CCC and there were caravan length restrictions of 26' When I asked if this was shipping length (I'm over 26') or body length they didn't know so didn't take the chance.

If you happen to be eligible to join CSMA (Civil Service Motoring Association) - and the conditions are not too onerous - you will get an excellent deal with Britannia Rescue which used to be owned by CSMA and is now run by LV=. May be available to non-members too.

I had a call from the AA at the weekend asking if I was going to renew .
I advised them no and gave them the reason why. They then said that as I had been with them over 30 years they could do a special deal.
The special deal was £192.00 with their Home Emergency cover thrown in. I told them it was still too expensive
Ten minutes later they called back and said that they had miscalulated the £192.00 and it should be £134.00.
I am now tempted to stay with them as I can cancel some of the home cover I have with British Gas and make a saving with them.
As usual with insurance type cover I am left wondering why they could not make the lower offer in the first place but I supose they bank on people not querying the amount

I have been with the AA for three years and each year they have tried to charge what I regarded as too much. Last year they knocked some off when I complained and this year they tried to charge me £113.50. When I went to their web site I asked for a quote and it came back £69.00! I phoned to cancel in disgust and almost straight away the manager came on and said they would cover me for £69.00. So if I hadn't complained, they would have kept quiet and charged me the full amount. Her reply was something like 'it's the law' and we have to charge you the full amount? When I said that it clearly stated that I could get it for £69.00 and why isn't this breaking their law (?) she said that's to compete with the competitors. My advice is threaten to cancel and they will reduce, rather than lose you.

We pay £89 with green flag and that includes Extra care and Home Start. So for an additional £45 you get home cover included. How often have you used Home Cover?

In essence they are cheats. If the correct premium was £134 then that is what they should have asked.
We're with The CC Green Flag Mayday Dual Recovery Cover and have no intentions of moving.

I normally manage to do repairs myself but I have used the Home cover twice in the last year.
Once for a dripping tap that I could not undo to replace the washer, although I discovered it does not have a washer but had another method of cutting of the water supply
The other was a close couple toilet cistern which was overflowing and again I had trouble dismantalling the cistern
On both occassions British Gas sent someone to fix the problems.
As the AA are covering this free, at least for one year, I will make a saving by cancelling the British Gas cover.
Next year who knows what will happen with the AA subscription but at the moment I will take advantage of their generosity ( did I really say generosity when they should offer the best quote when offering renewal )

With Green Flag they will recover your car and caravan regardless of length... The AA has width and length restrictions.... Thats why I go with Green Flag/ MayDay even tho AA was £29 cheaper for us..... Better safe than stuck.....

Green Flag do not cover caravan over 7.5 metres in length. But CC Red Pennant does but at a high price. We have been with German ADAC for 3 years now they cover caravans and trailers up to 10 metres long. 2 people covered in one household driving or passenger in any car irrespective of age of car. We used them in April and the service was excellent. This is Cover for UK and all of Europe. 98.70 Euro's for one person itis cheaper. For details go to my website as signature below and click on ADAC page. The CC Red Pennant does not cover the new wider vans.
