Greese in the tow hitch

ive got an 83 abi ace, with an alko hitch none stabilzing, and have noticed its spongey, does anyone know how mcuh greese should be in the brake damper on the hitch ? and which nipple it needs to be in?

thanks mike

ok some advise but it does not really ancwer my question,

my hitch does not clunk brakes work, but i dont think it would of been serviced in years,

id like to greese it with a greese gun but dont want to fill it right up, just encase it would then be overfilled and not work ?

reguards mike

explain what you mean by"spongy?.briefly there are usually 3 grease nipples on the hitch which will require 6-7 shot from a grease gun. you should be able to push/compress the hitch with some difficulty & it should return slowly to the extended position. if it will not compress, or returns quickly, or does not return then the damper is faulty & needs replacing
