Just spent 14 nights at a site near Axminster. I booked and paid deposit way back early in the year, specifying fully serviced pitch (water, drainage and leccy) When we arrived we were directed to a pitch with just electric. When I asked about the serviced pitch the chappie said that it was a serviced one! Eventually I was able to explain to him what we mean by "fully serviced pitch" and he found me a spot in the seasonal pitch section of the site which served the purpose. Trouble was that we felt like Billy No-mates because there was only one other couple in sight! Apart from that, the facilities' condition left a lot to be desired as did the cleaning regime. The site seemed generally tired and run-down with unmade roads and lots of gravel in-filling. Not one to recommend! Funnily enough, there was an English Tourism sign at the gate with three stars! Also a C&CC sign declaring that it was "listed" whatever that means.
Fortunately the nice weather and glorious Devon/Dorset coast more than made up for our disappointment. Love caravanning!
Cheers all.

Much like a site i visited earlier in the year in Verwood...the approach road was clearly intended as a testing ground for 4x4's and the two toilets were anything but clean

It's annyoing isn't it?

We had something similar a few years ago.

I phoned to book the site. We were going in the English school hols but the site was in Wales. Anyway, they quoted the cost per night and for the week, for two adults, a child and a dog plus ehu and awning.

When we got there, I went to the desk to pay and found that the site had quoted us low rate when infact, as it was school holidays for Wales too, it was actually high season. So I paid the extra, although I wasn't happy to be missquoted in the first place.

The warden asked me to follow him with car and van. Imagine my surprise when he directed us to a boggy grassed area. I took one look at the ground and said even if my car (mondeo) managed to tow the van over the grass, he'd have no grass left. I explained the ground was just too boggy to even walk across and there was no chance of us putting the awning up too (no point actually).

So, he said all he'd got left were hard standing 'super' pitches. So we had to take one of those. Of course, I had to go to the office and pay even more for the privilege.

Never went back to that site.

Nigel,
Yes, there are quite a few statics there (the roads are nicely tarmacced along their area). The site name refers to a bird and a religious building.Your starter for ten!
