Groundsheet- How Big?

Hiya,

I need to buy a new ground sheet, but how big do I buy?

My van has an internal length of 6.4 mtrs and an external length of 7.8 mtrs- the awning is 1100 (2.5 wide)

My logic says that I should buy the internal length plus abit but not sure!!

Help

Cheers

The external length will include the A-frame and towball hitch so you are right to ignore this measurement. However, if an awning is a tad too big for the van, the side walls will tend to be pulled out a bit further, making the internal length of the awning just a bit bigger. Is it not possible to erect the awning and take real measurements?

If all else fails, buy it a bit oversized. You can always cut off surplus length. Surplus width should not be cut but can be folded under. If it's too small, it won't stretch.

Unfortunately, the van is 150 miles away, I'm going away for my first week in it at the end of the month and haven't yet put the awning up etc.....

Ok- so by my reckoning 6.4 meters interal = aprox 21 feet.

The van's official awning size is 1088, so the 1100 awning I have is only marginally larger.

I guess that a 23 foot groundsheet should be enough to allow for trimming down ?

With int 'van length of 21ft I would recommend a groundsheet of around 24ft. Cost diff will be minimum. This will allow a good fold under at whatever awning entrance you use, at either end, which is where the most wear will probably take place.

Also allows for end sloping of awning by a foot or so, if needed.
