SWMBO is digging her heels in again about not going anywhere without electric hook-up for the simple reason that she can't manage without her hair drier and other follicular related items.

Any suggestions (nothing rude or cruel,ta)

Hi Tram

I wouldn't go on a non electric pitch either. However, there might be a wash room etc where a plug socket and mirror is available. Some sites have hair dryers but they are usually underpowered cheap rubbish.

You can buy inverters but I would guess a hairdryer and straighteners would eat up quite a bit of juice.

Hi Tram,

Much as Lisa says,

A hair dryer will typically use 1to 1.5Kw. Such large inverters are quite expensive and to meet such power requirements it will impose a current draw of between 80 and 120A on the battery.

That rate of discharge will damage most leisure batteries, and of course flatten them very quickly in a mater of Mins. So such inverters in a caravan are not a practical choice.

Car batteries may withstand the rate of discharge better, but these tend to be have less charge capacity so will flatten even quicker.

The use of such a device in car would need the engine to be running, and the inverter must be located close to the vehicle battery to minimise voltage drops and to keep the cost of the copper wire down.

Over all the use of such large inverters is not a practical proposition for a caravan.

Best advice - either use sites with EHU's or consider divorce.

thanks for that Lisa.

I was hoping that there was a gas solution to the problem,( no, I don't mean that, it would be cruel). I own a gas blow torch and hoped the boffins has come up with something modelled on that to solve this problem; but it seems not. Anti-frizz has helped these past few years but not when camping.

The joke is I don't have a problem as I don't have much hair any more. Well not on top any-road-up.

Does your van not have a gas oven Tram?

Sorry pal, she sounds high maintenance to me. We use towells, my wife is 55 and still has lovely blonde hair with no hint of grey, she has only ever had her hair cut and always washes it herself and never has used a dryer.

No perms, blow drying or any of the other nonsense. I'd leave yours at home mate

Hi Jason R,

A young un of 55, you lucky B****r. I daydream sometimes about...

But i'm afraid your Mrs R doesn't understand the problems of fine hair 'frizz'. Mrs T, like all the wimmin i know thinks she's 25 and irresistible;(and she is) except for her hardly mentionable imperfection. In her case, wet hair frizz.

I guess we will have to always have hook-up.
