Hardstand areas

I have booked a hardstand area for my first ever holiday with a caravan next month but just purchased a nice awning.

Now not ever doing caravaning before and I feel a fool asking this, how do you peg the awning down if it is a hardstand area ?

ha ha, sorry buddy, i refer to peter as there was a post in here not too long ago when he said he had helped someone with their awning, then all hell broke loose, everyone asked him to come to their sites

All the hardstandings I have used have been to park the van on, and beside that is either a gravel area or grass area to erect your awning, if it's a grass area then you can use the plastic or thin metal pegs and I have been able to use the thin metal one's on the gravel area's.

There is how ever a different type for harder/rocky area's and I cant remember what they are called, but hang on some-one will come to your rescue. Hope this helps.

Hi i use the screw in peg driven down using a cordless drill depending how hard the ground is you may have to drill a pilot hole, i think the name of the peg is "peggy peg" hope this helps

You may find the site have a supply of the sort of pegs you need. We've been on several hardstandings, nearly always with a grassed area to the side for the awning, but once just gravel - where rock pegs were available to loan on a deposit system so you get back most of your deposit when you return them when you're packed up and ready to go.

If you are going to use screw pegs, depending on how hard the hard standing is, some people hamer them in & then screw them out, if its very hard a 6mm masonry bit is used to get them started .... So bang em in & screw em out ..... you will need a adapter for the peg to the drill....

Or you can use rock pegs... you will need a claw hammer to pull these out ... Rock pegs

if you use rock pegs take a claw hamer to remove them also better to bash them in .

We use the rock pegs all the time, those thin metal ones that come with the awning are just not sturdy enough

I would also recommend Rock Pegs for use on a hardstanding. The thin metal and plastic are of no use, However keep them safe for use on a grass pitch.

I keep a knackered old long series 10mm drill bit with my battery drill.

I can then pre drill and use plastic pegs with no problems.

Most hard standings are stoned type. We are on concrete at present and have turned the van 90 degrees to the standing to get 60% of the awning floor on concrete.

I use a plank of 4x2 wood and screw a few of the ties down to it. Then add a couple of 5litre bottles filled with tap water to weigh it down. Works ok for us.

Never had a problem with the rock pegs even when using a rubber mallet, use a claw hammer to get them out though, usually have to replace about 1/2 dozen over the year

Called down to Pontypridd caravans this afternoon for 15 rock pegs, cost 51 pence each.

You can tell we are getting close to the start of season, the shop was really busy.

And I must say as usual well stocked with all the must have items. According to my wife I was like a kid in a sweet shop.
