Hargill House Richmond

Has anybody been to this site and if so what is it like. Have heard there is quite a lot of road noise from the A66. I am going there next week so hope it is OK

We've stayed at Hargill House a couple of times, a good overnight stop for a Scotland trip!

Yes, it is very close to the A66, but if you are lucky enough to get a pitch away from the road, then it's not too bad at all. The lorries rumble past all night, but we didn't find it very intrusive.

There are some steep slopes around the site, We actually parked on the the very lowest set of pitches overlooking the fields, did not hear any roadnoise down their
Enjoyable 14 night stay , only drawback was the steep climbs up to the toilet block.
The main A66 which runs past the site, is behind trees is on a level strech so no excessive engine noises .Their is a Shell garage on the A1 just before the turn off to the A66 which when we were there ,sold cheaper diesel, well worth filling up their is quite a long slip road back onto the A1 enabling you to get up to speed.
Do not arrive before 12'oclock, as they will not book you in.(not sure why 12 oclock is blue) The site entrance is on the left from the road off the A66, If you turn left out of the entrance follow the road down a steep hill, very pleasant village at the bottom.
No Midges have a great trip Royston

Despite being on a pitch farthest from the road, we did notice the road noise (maybe we're used to living nowhere near a main road), and would hesitate to return.
